Jonathon Naylor Editor Teachers in Creighton and across Sask-atchewan vote next week on whether to strike if talks on a new contract continue to dissatisfy them. The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation and its 12,000 members will take a strike vote on Wednesday, April 13. According to The StarPhoenix, the vote could mean an all-out strike or other actions such as the withdrawal of voluntary services like providing extracurricular activities. STF has been bargaining with the government and Saskatchewan School Boards Association for nearly a year with no resolution. Teachers are seeking a 12 per cent raise over one year but have been offered a 5.5 per cent raise over three years, The StarPhoenix reported. The STF says the 12 per cent raise will match inflationary costs and bring Saskatchewan teacher salaries to their former levels above those in Manitoba and lower than those in Alberta, the newspaper stated. But the government trustee bargaining committee argue in a news release that its offer is "fair, reasonable and competitive" and that Saskatchewan teacher wages fare well against the national average. CBC reported that the teachers have been working without a contract since Aug. 31, 2010.
