An aspiring entrepreneur hopes to hail a third taxi company for the Flin Flon area, saying it would help reduce waiting time for cab customers. In a letter reviewed at Tuesday's city council meeting, Flin Flon's Wade Hanson requested permission to start the new business before the year is out. "My intention is to keep newer taxis on the roads, which I feel would be safer for the general public of Flin Flon and surrounding area," he wrote. "The benefit of new vehicles are safety for the passengers, better comfort, working air condition (sic) for summertime heat, and proper new tires to be used at all times." Hanson wrote that a new taxi business would reduce waiting times, but added that he would gladly refer customers to the two existing cab companies if he receives more calls than he can handle. Aside from the convenience for the public, he wrote that his business would also create new jobs. Hanson plans to start off with one cab and then purchase another new vehicle if business permits. His company would compete with Ty's Taxi, which opened in 2002, and United Taxi. Council offered no comments on Hanson's letter, referring it to the Committee of the Whole for further discussion.
