University of Manitoba medical students are in Northern Manitoba this week to get a taste of health care and life in general outside the big city. In commemoration of Rural Week, students are in 24 rural and northern communities, including Flin Flon, to learn from physicians and experience small-town living. "It is an opportunity for these communities to showcase themselves and promote the opportunities and benefits of rural and northern medicine," read a press release on the initiative. Other participating communities include Thompson, The Pas, Swan River, Winkler, Gillam, and Neepawa. "This valuable learning experience is possible through the commitment of these communities and the physicians that have agreed to act as teachers to the students," read the release. Rural Week began yesterday and runs until Friday.
