Negotiations have fallen apart between A&W and the developers of the Flintoba Shopping Centre, but the popular restaurant chain remains keen on opening a new Flin Flon restaurant. The Vancouver-based company, which had hoped to begin construction at the Flintoba site this year, is now looking at a couple of undisclosed sites elsewhere in the community. "Flin Flon remains on our target list," said vice-president of development Graham Cooke. "If we can find the right economics, we're confident we can have a successful business in Flin Flon." It's still possible the company will open a new Flin Flon restaurant by the end of the year, but Cooke acknowledged that the project could now stretch into the first quarter of 2005. Cooke said it's quite common for real estate negotiations of this nature to fall short of an agreement. "It's more common when it doesn't happen, but it doesn't mean that we're discouraged in our search to have a location in Flin Flon," he said. Meanwhile, Cooke said A&W now has two area residents interested in running a local franchise. "I would say both of them are looking promising," he said. The previous A&W in Flin Flon, located on Highway 10A not far from where the Flintoba Shopping Centre now stands, closed in 1999 and became a Chicken Chef Family Restaurant.
