Several steps have been taken to engage the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in the Lalor and Reed mining projects, Hudbay says. Spokesperson John Vincic says the company has been in a dialogue with MCCN for 'many years' and engaged in legal consultation on Lalor for more than two years. Vincic, vice-president of investor relations and corporate communications, says Hudbay's support for the government consultation process has included: $250,000 in funding for a 'Traditional Use Study' to understand MCCN's current traditional activities, such as hunting and ceremonial activities, in the area of the projects. The results are due this month. $60,000 in funding so MCCN could hire its own environmental consultant to review the Lalor and Reed projects _ based on extensive environmental studies that have been carried out as part of the permitting process. An offer to fund the employment of an MCCN 'point of contact' to facilitate training and educational opportunities. Hudbay says it is waiting for MCCN to identify a person for this role. Vincic also says 13 per cent of Hudbay's workforce identifies as aboriginal, with 'a significant number of aboriginal employees working in highly skilled jobs in our projects and operations.' _ J.N.
