RCMP in Cross Lake are investigating several suspicious fires that occurred between Aug. 17 and Aug. 20. On Aug. 17, a residential fire was quickly extinguished by the Cross Lake Community Fire Department in the early morning hours in the Alberts Lake Area of the Cross Lake First Nation. The residents were not home at the time of this incident. The office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting with the investigation. On Aug. 18, police and firefighters responded to a shed fire in the same area of the Cross Lake First Nation. The building and its contents were completely destroyed. In the early morning hours of Aug. 20, emergency personnel again responded to the scene of the first fire, reported on Aug. 17. This time the residence was completely engulfed in flames. RCMP continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cross Lake RCMP at 204-676-2600 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and may become eligible for a cash reward. Cross Lake is a northern Manitoba community located 120 kilometres south of Thompson.
