A man is facing a second-degree murder charge and RCMP are investigating after a man died in Sandy Bay late last month.

According to Saskatchewan RCMP, a man was brought to Sandy Bay's health clinic around 8:30 a.m. Nov. 29 with serious injuries. Despite efforts of health workers at the clinic, the man later died.

Later that day, RCMP made an arrest in relation to the man's death - police say the second man was arrested without incident.

The man arrested has been identified by RCMP as Nicholas David Paul Bear, age 23 of Sandy Bay. Bear faces one count of second degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada and made his first court appearance (via phone) in Prince Albert Provincial Court Dec. 1. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police have also identified the man who died as Nickison Bear. Saskatchewan RCMP have not provided further information about the victim or whether Nickison and Nicholas were known to each other.

RCMP members from several Saskatchewan police groups are investigating Bear's death, including Sandy Bay RCMP, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit, Saskatchewan RCMP Forensic Identification Services, Prince Albert RCMP Police Dog Services, Prince Albert General Investigation Section and the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service.
