How important is affordable housing? A variety of recreational activities? Reducing racism? Those are among the questions the Flin Flon Neighbourhood Revitalization Corp. is asking in a survey that will help reinvigorate the community in the coming years. 'The whole point of our organization is, we're supposed to address community priorities,' said FFNRC executive director Laurence Gillespie, 'and we have really no way of knowing what those are unless we get response from the community.' The FFNRC's survey went online Monday, open to people who live, work or volunteer in Flin Flon. The bulk of the survey asks respondents to rate the importance of, and their satisfaction with, different areas of community life. Do neighbours get to know each other? Is the community attractive? Are public places well maintained? Respondents are also given a chance to type in two things that would make Flin Flon a better place to live. The survey _ available at ffsurvey.org _ will play a key role in helping the FFNRC shape its priorities for the next five years. The provincially funded organization provides grants that support positive community activities and projects. It also awards grants to fix up the exterior of aging homes. By Wednesday afternoon, three days after it went online, the FFNRC survey had garnered 164 responses. Gillespie hopes to receive 500 to 600 completed surveys. There is not yet a formal deadline for completion, but it's hoped all surveys can be filled out by September. Paper copies of the survey can be picked up at the FFNRC office at 201-35 Main Street, above Pharmasave.
