Residents are invited to offer their feedback on how the Flin Flon General Hospital is treating emergency room patients.
An independent external review of the ER includes an online survey for area adults available at http://surveymonkey.com/s/JYNJBYB.
“The only way to participate in this survey is online,” said Glenn Hildebrand, spokesperson for the Northern Health Region. “The online survey tool automatically collects and tabulates results and ensures anonymity of the respondent.”
Those without Internet access may visit the Flin Flon Public Library, which has made a computer available for members of the public to complete the survey at no cost.
“The survey itself is very easy to navigate and should be a simple five-to-10-minute exercise for anyone to complete,” said Hildebrand.
For seniors and others who may not be computer savvy, the library staff will do their best to offer assistance to people filling out the survey.
The library would prefer survey respondents come on Friday, Nov. 15 between 1 and 5 p.m. That’s when library youth intern Landon Hiebert will have time dedicated to assisting survey respondents.
The anonymous survey is open until midnight on Nov. 15. It is open to adults living in the Flin Flon area who consider the Flin Flon General Hospital to be their local hospital.
Among the 27 questions making up the survey:
• Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: If I can’t get a doctor’s appointment quick enough, I have no problem going to the Emergency Department to see a doctor?
• Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: I can get an appointment to see a doctor in a reasonable period of time.
• On a scale of 1 to 5 with one being poor and five being excellent, how would you rate your satisfaction with the Flin Flon Clinic?
• What advice would you offer the Health Region’s Board of Directors on how to improve health care in the region overall?
• What are three things done poorly at the Flin Flon Emergency Department that they need to improve upon?
In September, the Flin Flon ER was the subject of a three-part investigative series by CBC-TV out of Winnipeg.
The report explored alleged misdiagnoses and other complaints surrounding care that has been provided at the hospital.
However, the external ER review had been planned prior to the CBC coverage. The review was part of ongoing work surrounding a 2011 review of health care in the Flin Flon-The Pas region.
