Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Eight children, ready to attend either Grade 4 or 5, zoomed through two books and a project this week as they attended Literacy Camp. The students, along with instructors Kristina and Lisa Lies, began the camp Monday at Ruth Betts Community School. Starting their first book, the group then moved to the Rotary Wheel the next day to finish their book and complete an exercise on what they learned. The group began the process again on Wednesday with a new book and completed it yesterday. Today, the group will write their own stories and participate in educational games. Literacy Camp ends just as the children are preparing for their first day of school of the 2012-13 year. Kristina started the camp last summer for students entering grades 1 and 2. Kristina moved the age group up to Grades 4 and 5 this year to see who the camp better suited. The Ruth Betts-based program offered learning, fun, and a chance to make new friends before the school year starts. Creighton Community School students will return to class on Tuesday while those in the Flin Flon School Division will walk through the doors on Wednesday.
