With a simple snip of the scissors yesterday, Mayor Dennis Ballard made the search for a summer job a lot easier. The mayor cut the ribbon to officially open the Flin Flon Student/Youth Human Resource Centre, based in the HRDC building on Main Street. "It's a one stop shop for students looking for jobs," said Rett Sapergia, student youth employment officer. "They can come here and see what jobs are available." The mandate of the centre is to match up as many students as possible with summer work ranging from casual to full-time. Employers who need to fill positions inform the centre, which then advertises those openings on its computerized job banks. For students and youth, it's job hunting made easy. "I'd say it makes the search for a summer job a lot easier because employers come to us," said Caitlin Bloxom, senior summer employment officer. "We're one of the first places that people come to to post their jobs." A handful of openings have already been placed, including custodial and lifeguard work, and many more are expected as the end of the school year creeps closer. "We're going to be going out to employers more and really trying to get more jobs," said Bloxom. While the grand opening was yesterday, the centre actually opened for 2004 last week. The Flin Flon Student/Youth Human Resource Centre is open from 8:00 a.m to 4:30 each weekday. For more information, call the centre at 687-1415.
