Jonathon Naylor Editor There was a time when area residents would dust off their school yearbooks, flip through the weathered pages and wonder whatever happened to their old chums. Now, in many cases at least, the answer is just a few clicks of a keyboard away. Nearly 4,000 past and present students of Flin Flon area schools have registered with Classmates.com, a popular social media website that reacquaints schoolmates. A dozen local schools, most of them now defunct, are represented. Not surprisingly, Hapnot Collegiate leads the way with 2,752 registrants. This includes individuals who signed up as graduates of 'Flin Flon Collegiate Institute.' McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac has 95 alumni on board, followed by Ruth Betts Community School with 77. Creighton Community School has 75 current or former pupils. Back at the high school level, the long-gone Sir Maurice Roche School has 59 graduates listed, with Many Faces Education Centre coming in with 42. Memories The remaining schools exist only in the memories of former students and staff, including Parkdale School with 52 registrants. Birchview Elemen-tary School has 49 ex-pupils signed up. Rounding out the list are Willowvale School (24), Ross Lake School (23), Hudson School (21) and Terrace School (3). Schools in neighbouring communities are also featured. Cranberry Portage Elementary School has 29 registrants, while the town's high school, Frontier Collegiate, has 453 alumni. Further east, Snow Lake's Joseph H. Kerr School has 293 registrants. All told, Classmates.com reportedly has over 30 million members. Before you logging on, keep in mind that while it is free to register on the site, there is a fee involved for anyone wishing to contact an old schoolmate.
