Highlights from the Creighton School Board meeting of Jan. 23: Mark Linnick and Denae Lagore of the Student Leadership Council presented an overview of past and planned activities by the SLC. One of the highlights so far was their attendance at the annual Student Leadership Conference in Watrous, Saskatchewan. The SLC is involved in planning various school activities, including the Remembrance Day ceremony and the Twelve Days of Christmas event. Future plans include fundraising for Free the Children to provide clean drinking water and educational opportunities for students in Third World countries. The board commended the SLC and teachers Anita Nickerson and Catherine Joa for advising and supervising the group's work. Trustees decided that with all the new incoming provincial initiatives, more meetings are needed to debate and discuss the direction of the school division. These added meetings will be designed to ensure trustees fully understand the issues so they are better able to make informed decisions. They will be adding five more Committee of the Whole meetings to their annual work calendar. These meetings will take place every second month. The first of these meetings will take place in early February, at which time trustees review changes to the board policy review process. No formal decisions are made at these meetings. On Jan. 23, Creighton School Division hosted its annual stakeholder's meeting. The purpose was to present the community with information from the audited financial statement for the 2011-12 year as well as student achievement data. Auditor Dave Kendall was available at the meeting to answer both trustee and community questions regarding the fiscal situation of the division. Director of Education Bob Smith provided data on the achievement of students. Both the audited financial statement and the document on student achievement, titled 2012-2015 Continuous Improvement and Accountability Framework, are available on the school division website.
