As the snowmobiling conditions improve, the Creighton RCMP would like to remind the community of certain responsibilities, safety concerns and some infractions to keep everyone safe while snowmobiling in the new year. Every snowmobile in Saskatchewan needs to be registered if you intend to ride on any Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association designated trail or on Crown land such as ditches, lakes and rivers. A snowmobile that is registered in another province does not need to be registered in Saskatchewan provided it has not been here for more than 90 days and has liability insurance. A valid driver's licence is required for anyone over 16 years of age to operate a snowmobile. Operators between the ages of 12 and 15 as well as operators over 16 years, without a valid driver's licence, are required to complete a certified safety course before snowmobiling. Underage operators must be supervised by someone who holds a valid driver's licence. All operators must produce a valid driver's licence or safety course certification when asked by police, so carry it on you at all times. The Creighton RCMP would like to remind citizens that operating a snowmobile on all avenues, lanes and streets in Creighton is permitted with the exception of Main Street, Creighton Avenue and Highway 167. Operators will be permitted to cross Main Street at the intersections of 3rd and 4th Avenues only. This season, the RCMP will be completing snowmobile stop checks on designated trails and areas of concern. Police will be looking for valid snowmobiles, valid licenced plates, valid trail passes, valid operator's licences and proper use of helmets. The RCMP in partnership with SERM will be looking for offences under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act, the Fishing Act, the Fishing Regulations and the Criminal Code as well. Please safely operate your snowmobile and please respect the environment.
