A year has shown quite a difference for Creighton RCMP.

In total, 38 files were reported to RCMP in Creighton in March – down 30 per cent from March 2017.

Seven thefts, including three reports of stolen vehicles, were called to the police.

Vehicles were recovered in two of the vehicle thefts. One vehicle was found in a snowbank not far from where it was originally taken from, while another was found in Flin Flon.

The third vehicle theft call was later found to be unsubstantiated -– the vehicle was not stolen, but the owner had forgotten where it was parked.

“I’m not sure how you miss your own vehicle, but the vehicle was never missing,” said RCMP Sgt. Sean McPhee at the April 11 Creighton town council meeting.

Four assaults were reported, including two domestic assaults. Charges were laid in both instances.

A third assault call was issued after an intoxicated woman was reported to police near Creighton Community School. When an officer responded, the woman assaulted the officer.

“When she was arrested for being drunk in public, she attacked the police. She was arrested and charged – we don’t tolerate assault on police,” said McPhee.

“She got a liquor ticket, to boot.”

Another assault involved what was deemed a fight between a man and a woman. Both declined to press charges.

RCMP also received four mischief calls, including three incidents of intoxicated people refusing to leave homes when occupants wanted them gone.

The fourth mischief involved a man, described as “jealous” by McPhee, breaking windows at his girlfriend’s residence.

However, the plan turned out to be short-sighted.

“It was also his own residence. He was breaking his own windows,” said McPhee.

“Jealousy’s a strong driving factor a lot of times, right? You take jealousy out of the world and I’m almost out of a job.”

One sudden death was reported and deemed not suspicious.

The 2017-18 annual performance plan (APP) for the Creighton RCMP has now wrapped up.

While the detachment finished far short of its annual goal of 1,000 curfew checks, McPhee said there was a good reason why – fewer offenders known to police are living in Creighton.

“If they’re not there, I’m okay with that.”

The detachment missed their goal of 100 speeding tickets issued this year, reporting only 70 offenses.

Officers performed 11 check stops and 27 priority remands.

A new APP will likely be released within the next month.
