The two men charged in Flin Flon's latest homicides have yet to enter pleas as their cases wind through the court system. Mitchell Whitbread was in Flin Flon Provincial Court on Aug. 1, at which time his case was remanded to Sept. 5, again in Flin Flon. Whitbread, 25, a Flin Flon resident, is charged with second-degree murder in the apparent stabbing death of John (Kelli) Eyres, 31, also of Flin Flon, on May 12 of this year. Crown prosecutor Todd Rambow said previously that he suspects a preliminary inquiry will be held in Flin Flon at some point. But he said it is difficult to predict when a plea will be entered. Meanwhile, more than nine months after being charged, James Noel Desmarais makes his next court appearance in The Pas on Aug. 20. Desmarais, 45, of Flin Flon is charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 31, 2011 death of fellow Flin Flonner Raylene Dawn Grant, 21. While Flin Flon RCMP say Desmarais confessed to the murder, that will not necessarily translate into a guilty plea. RCMP have released few details of the homicides. The homicide last October was Flin Flon's first reported murder since 2005.
