Canada Post has announced its 2005 postage stamp program. When Canadians put a stamp on their mail, they can celebrate Canada's role in several historic events, some well-known and respected Canadian personalities, exciting new sports or the culture and society that is uniquely Canada. "The post office has a real responsibility to ensure that Canadian postage stamps reflect the country ? its people, history, traditions and cultures," said Anne Joynt, President and CEO of Canada Post. The 2005 designs will include the very popular image of the Queen, using a photograph by Bryan Adams, (first issued last year) and five new flag images. Joining the roster of Canada's stamps will be three new flower images, one each at the domestic (50), U.S. (85) and international rate ($1.45). See 'Works' P.# Con't from P.# Winter 2005 issues will include stamps celebrating the Lunar New Year's Year of the Rooster, another impressive line-up of NHL All-Stars, stamps showcasing the delicate works of art that are fishing flies and a stamp for the 100th anniversary of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Finally, Canada Post will jump into the excitement of EXPO 2005, being held in Aichi, Japan, by issuing a stamp celebrating the theme of EXPO ? The Wisdom of Diversity. Nothing says spring like daffodils. Two stamps featuring these popular early blooms will lead the program out of winter. Other subjects included in the spring portion of the 2005 program are a third set of Audubon bird issues, Canadian bridges, the 100th anniversary of Maclean's Magazine and artist Homer Watson. The summer season will bring a stamp in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Port-Royal (Nova Scotia), a stamp marking 250 years since the deportation of Acadians from the Maritimes and the 11th Fédération internationale de natation World Championships in Montréal (being held for the first time in North America). Closing out the summer season will be two stamps issued to commemorate the centennials of Alberta and Saskatchewan. October is celebrated as Stamp Collecting month around the world, and Canada's stamp issue promoting the world's most popular hobby is sure to thrill Canadians of all ages. The extreme sports of skateboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking and wall climbing will mark an adventurous start to the fall program. Rounding out the fall term will be the always popular stamps for Christmas, in 2005 featuring crèches.
