A drop in temperatures has coincided with a drop in calls for Creighton RCMP.
Throughout the detachment, 112 calls came in to RCMP in September, down both from last year and from June, where 80 more calls were reported during the detachment’s busiest month this year.
Within Creighton, 39 calls came in during September.
Two assault calls ended with charges. Ten mischief reports were called in, each involving intoxicated people.
The calls also included three thefts, including a jerry can and a cell phone battery reported stolen and a gas-and-dash at the Petro Canada station.
One break and enter, reported at the Phantom Lake Golf Course, is still under investigation.
“We’re still working on it,” said Sgt. Sean McPhee, presenting the Creighton RCMP detachment’s monthly report to Creighton town council at its Oct. 10 meeting.
One charge of possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose was also reported, along with other, non-criminal matters.
“We get a lot of bear calls this time of year,” said McPhee.
“It’s still been a pretty good month.”
In Denare Beach, 70 calls came in to RCMP from the municipality and the Amisk Lake reserve.
Four assaults were called in from the community, including a reported stabbing which is still under investigation. Two calls involving fights did not end in charges after people refused to provide information to police. The final call was a domestic assault, with one person charged and remanded until trial.
Mischief calls made up a large portion of RCMP call activity in Denare Beach, where officers responded to 15 mischief calls in September. Reports of a vandalized camper and tires being slashed on a truck were made. Another mischief call involved someone walking into what the RCMP report describes as a neighbour’s house and leaving behind a mop, bucket and soap in the house.
“The act was symbolic,” reads the report.
One break-and-enter call proved to be unfounded, while another ended up being a case of mistaken identity.
“The people in the building were supposed to be there,” reads the report.
Two thefts, including stolen liquor and a missing bicycle, were reported to RCMP.
RCMP responded to three calls in Sturgeon Landing. Two involved mischief files, while the third, an assault file, was closed after the reportee did not provide additional details to officers.
