Jonathon Naylor Editor Auriga Gold Corp. is reporting high-grade intersections from drilling by its potential gold mine near Sherridon. The junior miner recently said early drill results from the Nokomis deposit, part of the Maverick Gold Project, are encouraging. 'We are extremely pleased with the initial results of drilling,' Richard Sutcliffe, president and CEO of the Toronto-based company, said in a news release. 'We have encountered some spectacular gold grades and wide intervals of mineralization.' Auriga said intersections included one hole with 7.63 metres grading 9.22 grams of gold per tonne and another with 5.20 metres grading 12.27 grams per tonne. Sutcliffe said those and other promising intersections discovered are at depths of 63 metres or less and therefore 'potentially amenable to open-pit mining.' The Maverick Gold Project consists of the long-idle Puffy Lake gold mine and the Nokomis property seven kilometres away. 'The Nokomis deposit displays consistently wider intercepts than the adjacent Puffy Lake deposit,' said Sutcliffe, 'and demonstrates the significant potential of the regional gold mineralized structure on the north boundary of the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt.' Further results Auriga recently completed a 19-hole drill program for a total of about 1,300 metres at the Nokomis deposit. Further assay results are pending. The company plans to upgrade and expand the resources at the Maverick Gold Project, initiate test mining, complete feasibility studies and bring the Puffy Lake mine back into production at an undetermined date. 'Auriga Gold acquired the Maverick project just over a year ago,' Sutcliffe recently told ResourceClips.com. 'We really like both the regional exploration potential and the existing infrastructure in the area _ this is the Flin Flon Mining Camp. 'Our focus until recently had been strictly on the Puffy Lake deposit, which is a resource that we built up to three-quarters of a million ounces. This winter we moved out for the first time to one of the satellite deposits on this regional trend, and we've come back with some really exciting results from the first drill holes on the Nokomis deposit.' Added the CEO: 'There is a mill on the property. We do see an opportunity to restart test mining on the property within the year.'
