Everybody is welcome to come out to the SPCA's Open Day this Saturday, August 28, from 1:00 - 5:30 p.m. at Stillwater Kennels. Sherry Barnett, a spokesperson for the SPCA, gives the reason for the open day: "We just wanted to give people the opportunity to come along and walk around at their leisure. If they happen to find their perfect four legged friend we'll have volunteers on hand who can introduce them and allow them to get to know each other a little. We'll try to answer any questions they might have and help with the necessary paperwork should they decide to go ahead with the adoption. We're also there for people who already have pets and may need advice on behavioural difficulties, dietary concerns and such, or people might just want to find out more about the SPCA. Everybody is welcome." The SPCA will be offering a substantial one time discount on any adoptions that follow as a result of the Open Day. Sherry explains: "The SPCA does not make any money on adoptions. The fee is only designed to cover the costs of neutering and inoculation and these are costs that any responsible pet owner would incur anyway. However, we realize that this can appear to be quite a daunting expense, so we'll be giving a 30 per cent discount on canines and 50 per cent on felines. This will be in effect until one week after the Open Day to give people the chance to go home and think about whether they want to go through with the adoption." Stillwater Kennels is located on Highway #10 south just past the Schist Lake (Drive-in) turnoff on the right hand side. A sign will be posted to help direct you.
