Flin Flon songwriter Mark Rowe has followed up one success with another. After taking top spot in a songwriting contest in the May-June issue of American Songwriter, he has won third place in the magazine's July-August contest. There is no prize, per se, though Rowe has the lyrics to his tune _ You're Not The One Who's Losing You _ published in the current edition of the magazine. The countryesque song tells the story of a painful breakup. Rowe chose not to attach a gender to the narrator, so men and women can relate equally to the lyrics. He hopes his third-place win will help convince judges that his first-place win is worthy of American Songwriter's year-end prize. The year-end prize gives the winner the opportunity to have one of their songs professionally recorded by an artist in Nashville. Rowe's first-place win, for a heartbreak song called I Know How The World's Gonna End, has already earned its author a new acoustic guitar worth about $4,000. Since The Reminder reported on his initial win last month, Rowe has received plenty of positive feedback from familiar _ and not-so familiar _Êfaces. 'Lots of people stopped me on the street. I was shocked,' says the semi-retired property owner. '(They said), 'Hey, aren't you the guy that wrote that song.' People I didn't even know (recognized me).' Rowe has honed his creative skills by attending a number of songwriting symposiums in Nashville and across Canada. After nearly 30 years of a myriad of careers in Flin Flon, the Newfoundland native now hopes to one day pen songs full-time. The lyrics to You're Not The One Who's Losing You: You tell me I should forget you Start a new life on my own So now you're slipping off your ring You're gonna cast the first stone You swear the sun will still come up I'll find someone new some day And then my broken heart will heal Well that's not for you to say Cause you're not the one Who's losing you No you're not the one Who's wearing my shoes Oh you make it sound So simple to do But you're not the one Who's losing you I wish you could feel how it feels You might give this one more try Cause I don't think I can make it If I let you say goodbye Still you claim you know me better You're so sure I'll find my way And time takes care of everything Well that's big of you to say Cause you're not the one Who's losing you No you're not the one Who's wearing my shoes Oh you make it sound So simple to do But you're not the one Who's losing you Yeah you make it sound So simple to do But you're not the one Who's losing you No you're not the one Who's losing you
