Submitted by Cranberry Portage RCMP North District Traffic Services has partnered with the Flin Flon-Cranberry Portage RCMP detachment and Manitoba Conservation this winter in order to conduct winter snowmobile checks. Both static and roving snowmobile patrols have been utilized on area trails and lakes. A total of 58 off-road vehicles have been checked. A total of six impaired drivers were detected, resulting in sanctions involving either 24-hour or 90-day driving suspensions and, in one case, an operator is facing Criminal Code impaired driving charges. In addition, six operators were charged with operating an unregistered snow machine, one operating without a valid licence, one open liquor charge, and two fishermen were charged with fishing with a barbed hook.
