I'm dreaming of a white... Halloween? Environment Canada is predicting heavy snowfall in northwest Manitoba late Friday and into Saturday - the first snowfall warning of the season.

The national organization issued a snowfall warning in the wee hours of Oct. 30 for Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Grass River Provincial Park, Snow Lake and Herb Lake Landing. A similar warning is in place for The Pas, Wanless, Westray, Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, Norway House, Cross Lake, Wabowden, Island Lake, Oxford House, Gods Lake on the Manitoba side and Creighton, Denare Beach, Highway 106 (the Hanson Lake Road), Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Carrot River, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay, Cumberland House, Prince Albert and other communities in Saskatchewan.

The reason cited for the likely snowfall is a low pressure system coming across the prairie provinces, dumping snow on both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

"Snow will be heavy at times, giving total amounts of 10-20 centimetres," the warning says. According to Environment Canada, the snowfall will begin Friday afternoon and will wall until Saturday afternoon, when it will likely taper off.

Road visibility will be reduced at times due to snowfall - Environment Canada advises drivers to take breaks and advises people to avoid excess strain when shovelling.
