The Town of Snow Lake and the town's RCMP Detachment will be conducting a Police-Community Consultation Workshop in early to mid August, an RCMP statement released earlier this week confirmed. The press release stated that based upon the preference of respondents, the workshop would be held either August 5th or 12th, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It further advised that the workshop was being held in order to discuss and establish policing priorities for the community and area. "This will be an opportunity for community stakeholders to share their concerns, help to identify policing priorities, and assist in establishing co-operative solutions to the issues identified," said Corporal Bob MacKnight in the release. The workshop is being based on the premise that in order to obtain a proper assessment of what the policing objectives should be, and to establish a collective effort, police will require a broad base of community input. "Consequently, we are inviting a number of persons within the community to attend this workshop," said MacKnight. The current Snow Lake detachment priorities are: Traffic Services/ Enforcement, Off-Road Vehicles Act Education / Enforcement, Youth, Restorative Justice - Youth Justice Committee and Alcohol/Drug Abuse Education/ Enforcement.
