The Town of Snow Lake has received word of the successful application for a grant to replace an old wheelchair ramp and upgrade the roof and site drainage around the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall. In a July 27 letter to the community's recreation director, the Minister of Culture, Heritage, and Tourism, Eric Robinson, stated, "I am pleased to advise you that a Community Places Program grant of up to $5,197 has been approved to assist your organization in carrying out your project." The ramp has been up for replacement for several years now and drainage from and around the hall has been an ongoing problem. It is thought that with approval of this grant and with the money raised during the recent Rick Hanson Wheels in Motion event, both projects will be completed this summer. The Town also received word of the approval of another grant that was applied for through Manitoba Hydro. It was for $10,000 and will be used to upgrade lighting in the hall and other recreation facilities. Work on the hall, which was named in honour of Snow Lake's first mayor, will begin immediately.
