Cucumbers purchased at Snow Lake’s Cornerview Enterprises and several other Manitoba stores have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall applies to fresh field cucumbers sold in bulk, unwrapped, and any in-store produced products that contain field cucumbers purchased from the store on or before Sept. 8, 2015.
Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased affected products should check with the store, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
“Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased,” the CFIA said on its website.
“Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”
As of Thursday morning, there were no reported illnesses associated with the cucumbers in Canada.
The recall was prompted by more than 340 cases of salmonella in the US believed to stem from tainted cucumbers sold by a California company, CTV reports, adding that two of those patients have died.
No Flin Flon or Cranberry Portage area stores are impacted by the recall. A complete list of Manitoba and Saskatchewan stores impacted by the recall is available at:
