The NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority is pleased to advise that the Snow Lake Personal Care Home bed expansion has been approved and construction will be commencing in the next month. The project was initiated by the Snow Lake District Health Council and was admitted to Manitoba Health for funding consideration by the Nor-Man Regional Health Authority in June 2000. The project was announced on April 14, 2003 by Gerard Jennissen, MLA, on behalf of the Honourable Dave Chomiak, Minister of Health, at a ceremony at Snow Lake Health Centre. Since the announcement, the NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority has been working with David Goyer Architectural firm to develop the architectural and engineering documents for the project. The tender for this project has been awarded to Nor-Man Electrical/ Mechanical Construction from Thompson. The proposed expansion involves new construction to the north end of the health centre and will expand the number of personal care home beds from two to four. The budget for this component of the project is $254,861. The community also identified two additional improvements to the Health Centre, which were not part of the approved project. These enhancements will be funded through the former Snow Lake Health Centre Facility Foundation Incorporated at a cost of $26,537. Enhancements will include renovations and improvements to the kitchen as well as the resident and patient lounge including the installation of a fenced-in patio directly outside the lounge.
