Denare Beach children as young as the grade 3 level were recently found to have been sniffing over-the-counter products in an attempt to get high, said police. Creighton RCMP were made aware of the problem, which they said involved about 10 youth from grade 3 to grade 8, at a recent meeting with community agencies. The youth have been identified and follow-up work was planned, including having them watch an educational video and receive counseling at school, police said. Police have also played a role in the follow-up by regularly monitoring the sites where the youth apparently took part in sniffing. Cst. Richard Price said the fact the children live in Denare Beach does not mean the problem couldn't extend to other areas. "Sniffing is a health risk that can cause brain damage, hallucinations and impair (judgment)," he said.
