A group of the Flin Flon Ski Club’s best and brightest young skiers are headed to next month’s Saskatchewan Winter Games.
Jesse Kozar, Sarah Faktor, David Richard and Grady Bedford all qualified for the team after winning a qualification sprint race in La Ronge on Dec. 10. Kozar and Faktor finished first and second on the girls’ side, while Richard and Bedford grabbed first and second in the boys’ race. The four are all eligible to represent the Northern district in the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford from February 18-24.

The results capped off a banner weekend for the club, which saw members come home with 13 medals in total.
Kozar led the way with a gold medal in the five-kilometre juvenile girls’ free technique race and a silver medal finish in the juvenile girls’ eight-kilometre race. Faktor medaled in the same two events, getting silver in the five-kilometre race and bronze in the eight-kilometre race. Not to be outdone, Richard came home with two silver medals, coming second in the juvenile boys’ eight-kilometre race and the five-kilometre free technique event. Bedford earned bronze medals in both races.

In the older age groups, Brett Unrau earned a gold medal in a masters’ division mens’ 10-kilometre race, while Duane Davis grabbed two silver medals in another masters’ mens’ 10-kilometre race and a 5-kilometre event.
Rick Hall earned gold in another masters’ five-kilometre event, with Bob Jarvis coming third.
