A new winter means a new season for the Flin Flon Ski Club. The group is opening up their season soon and holding an event to welcome skiers back.

The club is hosting its annual season-starting open house Nov. 26, starting at 11 a.m. Attendees can get a glimpse at the season to come and see how the club prepares its trails for hundreds of visitors each winter.

“Volunteers started brushing our 28 kilometres of trails around mid-September and with snow heading our way, our crews will soon be at work with our excellent trail-grooming equipment,” said long-time club member and coordinator Dave Price.

The club hosts events and ski courses for all ages throughout each winter, ranging from the Ski and Play program for young kids and stretching through to the Bunny Rabbit, the Jack Rabbit and junior race team programs. The club occasionally hosts provincial-level cross-country ski races later in the winter and hosts the annual Val and Ivor Hedman Centaloppet each year.

“Cross-country skiing is a lifetime activity – some of the regulars you’ll meet out there are well into their retirement years,” said Price.

“If you want to try out skiing for the first time, we can rent you the equipment – and some of our regulars will be happy to take you for your first tour around the valley.”

The open house will be held at the club’s chalet, located south of Centoba Park. More information can be found at the ski club’s website at flinflonskiclub.com.
