A half-dozen calls kept Flin Flon firefighters busy throughout June, city council learned Tuesday. Council reviewed the monthly fire chief's report, which detailed each incident: June 3, 8 PM: A call from 911 stated the alarms were ringing inside a store at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the cause stemmed from a power outage. The fire chief and 16 firefighters responded. June 8, 12:40 PM: A call from 911 stated the ambulance required assistance with a patient on Prince Charles Place. Upon arrival, firefighters assisted the ambulance attendants. The fire chief and five firefighters responded. June 10, 4:27 AM: A call from 911 stated there was a fire on Second Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found the cause of the smoke was a burning pot left on a stove. The RCMP had removed the pot from the residence before the arrival of firefighters. The on-call officer and 11 firefighters responded. June 27, 9:21 PM: A call from 911 stated the fire department was required to assist in a water rescue. It was determined the rescue was located in Saskatchewan and the Creighton fire department was called. The on-call officer and 19 firefighters responded. June 29, 8:20 AM: A call from the RCMP requested one person from the fire department attend a motor vehicle accident scene to disconnect the battery cables. The fire chief attended this call alone. June 30, 9:35 PM: A call from 911 stated the fire alarm system had activated inside Ruth Betts Community School. Upon arrival, firefighters checked the entire school and found nothing. The fire chief and two firefighters responded to this call. Firefighters also responded to six calls in June 2011, the report noted.
