The City of Flin Flon has finalized a policy dealing with the placement of temporary advertising signs in the community. Assistant Director of Works and Operations Rick Bacon noted that the policy came into effect last month and states that: signs advertising a for-profit venture are not permitted on residential property; signs advertising both for-profit and not-for-profit ventures are permitted in commercial zones; the owner of the signs requires a permit for each one; all signs, no matter which zone they are in, are subject to approval from City Hall and the permit process; and signs are not allowed on property zoned as Parks and Recreation land. The policy meant that advertising signs near the Flin Flon Station Museum, the south end of Flinty's Boardwalk and Kin Park had to be removed, as each of those locations is zoned as Parks and Recreation land. The signs were first discussed by City Council in June after they discovered that that temporary signs used to advertise commercial ventures may not have been in compliance with the City's zoning bylaw.
