Four unique collections of artwork will be on display at the NorVA Centre this weekend at the Visual Art Showcase, part of the Manitoba Contact Showcase 2015.
Multimedia artist Ben Davis will be in attendance at NorVA tomorrow, Thursday, for an artist’s talk about his exhibit, currently on display at NorVA.
Called (re)drawn, Davis’ exhibit includes photographs with sand-blasted glass overlay and works in charcoal and ink on paper.
Davis will give his artist’s talk at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 22 at NorVA.
Three winning entries from the Annual Rural and Northern Art Show will also be on display this weekend. This juried art show was held in Winnipeg in July.
Among the winners from the show is NorVA resident artist Avery Ascher, who lives in The Pas.
While Ascher is best known locally for her work in copper, she was awarded second place for a piece called “Sky Dress,” made from fibre, textile and driftwood.
“Sky Dress” will be on display at the NorVA Centre this weekend along with the first- and third-place winning pieces, created by Ruth Smith and Mark Keating respectively.
NorVA is also hosting a sampling of pieces from the Manitoba Arts Network touring exhibits, including Hats from a Life Lived, which features vintage hats that have been transformed by Winnipeg artists.
Finally, local talent will be highlighted this weekend as well, as each NorVA artist has been invited to contribute a few favourite pieces to showcase.
