An unusually late and cold season has forced organizers to cancel the Flin Flon Horticultural Fall Show for this year. One of the community's longest-running traditions, the show has been called off for just the third time in its nearly 70 years. A total of 225 entries decorated the entry tables last year at the R.H. Channing Auditorium, proving that gardeners can be quite successful even in Northern Manitoba. Meanwhile, the annual horticultural show in The Pas also had to be canceled, but for a different reason. A massive flash flood in the town earlier this summer diverted residents' attention from their gardens to their water-soaked basements. "...they weren't able to spend much time in their garden to look after their plants because your mind would be focused on cleaning out your basement and all the work that has to be done there," organizer Liz Bennett told CBC.
