November has arrived and with it comes a time when the work of Operation Christmas Child will be on the minds of many people. Operation Christmas Child is an outreach of the Samaritan's Purse, an organization headed by Franklin Graham. (Son of well known Evangelist Billy Graham). As Franklin says, "We are an effective means of reaching people battered by war, poverty, disease, and disaster with food, medicine, and other assistance." Operation Christmas Child is part of that aid. Since 1993, Canada and 10 other countries have collected and delivered more than 31 million shoe box gift packages to boys and girls in over 120 countries. These gifts, lovingly packed, become priceless treasures to the children who receive them. Canadians are moved to participate for many reasons. But the results are always the same, bringing joy into the life of a child. Our community and surrounding area's response has always been overwhelming in the past. Many of the local schools participate by having students bring items to class and filling boxes, other churches have their Sunday School members do the same, Brownies and Guides, Cub and Scout groups make filling shoe boxes a part of their program, and many businesses and individuals give generously each year. See 'Countries' P.# Con't from P.# This year Canadian boxes will go to at least 21 countries including Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, Senegal, Uruguay. Pharmasave has again offered to be a drop off centre during their regular store hours. Grey Goose Bus Depot has shoe boxes and will receive filled boxes as well during their regular hours. First Baptist Church will be available during the week of November 8-13, from 6 - 8 p.m. By phoning 687-4123 arrangements can be made for drop off during the day. Sunday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. will be our final collection date. First Baptist Church will be holding a dedication service that evening and will view this year's video from Operation Christmas Child. The video shows how and where gifts are shipped and allows us to see the joy the children experience as they receive our gifts. Everyone is welcome.
