She’s lifting up the rug

Despite unprecedented awareness, domestic violence is all too often swept under the rug.
Connie Lynne has made it her mission not only to lift up the rug, but to help abuse survivors heal from their trauma.
She was in the region recently for a series of seminars in Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Sandy Bay and Deschambault Lake.
“The message that the cycle of abuse can be stopped is making an impact,” says Lynne, an abuse survivor who resides in southern Manitoba.
Lynne leads participants through a seminar that involves workbooks, reflection and thought exercises.
She has made trips to this region dating back to 2012, and continues to field requests to return.
“I am so happy to have been involved in these communities,” Lynne says. “I truly believe that, together, we can stop the cycle of abuse”
Response to the seminars has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The seminar spoke to my heart,” said one participant in Deschambault Lake.
Added another: “What was particularly effective within the seminar was knowing the difference between physical and emotional abuse.”
The RCMP sponsored the seminars.
