Jonathon Naylor Editor She may love movies, but Amanda Bell James never saw this plot twist coming. After signing up for Netflix last week, the Flin Flon resident was informed that she had just helped the online film streamer reach a remarkable milestone. "I'm excited to be the millionth Canadian member," says Bell James. "Netflix is something I enjoy with my family and I look forward to continue watching our favourite movies and TV shows via Netflix in the future." In honour of being the one-millionth customer, Bell James has received a free lifetime subscription to what is the world's leading Internet subscription service for movies and TV shows. A married mom who works as a health-care aide, Bell James does not consider herself a film fanatic. Amid the hustle and bustle of daily life, she catches flicks when she can, in the evening with her family. Enjoy the service She prefers comedy, action and family films, and expects to enjoy the service even more now that she will never again receive a bill. Netflix launched in Canada in September 2010, surpassing its own expectations for growth when it crossed the one-millionth member mark in 10 months. "We're thrilled that Canadians have embraced Netflix so rapidly, and are we're equally proud to have welcomed one million members in such a short period," said CEO Reed Hastings in a news release. Netflix has over 25 million subscribers across Canada and the United States.
