Anne Schiltroth is being remembered as a dedicated, straightforward woman who cared about her friends and community.
The former Denare Beach village councillor passed away in Saskatoon on Dec. 24 after falling ill. She was 76.
“She spoke her mind,” said Eileen Blake, a friend of Schiltroth’s. “She was a very strong-willed person. She didn’t back down from anybody. She told it like it was.
“It’s a good way to be. If you’ve got something to say, say it. She was good on council.”
Denare Beach mayor Carl Lentowicz, who worked with Schiltroth during her two terms on council, described her as determined.
“She looked out for the village and did a good job,” he added.
“She was a good councillor.”
Elaine Lowe had no trouble coming up with positive adjectives to describe Schiltroth, her friend of more than five decades.
“Hard working, trustworthy, honest – best friend I ever had,” she said.
“If I needed a shoulder to cry on, she was there. If I was laughing and having fun, she was there.”
Originally from Flin Flon, Schiltroth moved to Denare Beach in 1976, serving on village council from 2006 to 2012.
She was also an active volunteer in the area, and spent time on the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce executive.
“She just liked to be involved in her community, and try to improve things for everybody,” said Lowe.
At the time of her passing, Schiltroth was living in Creighton. She was predeceased by husband Mel, who died in 2003. The couple had no children.
Cremation has taken place. A private family internment in Denare Beach is scheduled for a later date.
