Residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon out while at the same time learning about the many health-related services and activities available in the community. The Community Fun Fair, a showcase of such resources, will take place this Saturday, September 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. "It's really important that people become excited about their health and want to find resources and information on how to live a healthier lifestyle," said Christa McIntyre, the liaison between the NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority and the District Health Council, which is putting on the event. More than 40 organizations and businesses have already booked booths for the fair, including the local karate club, the Youth Bowling Council and Medichair. "There's going to be a wide variety of health-related booths," commented McIntyre. One of her favourite booths is the Teddy Bear Clinic, where children will be encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bear or stuffed animal for a check-up from a nurse. There will be other kid-friendly aspects of the fair as well, including a face-painting booth and the local Scout troupe's fish pond. Entertainment will include a demonstration by the local karate club and a performance by hoop dancers. Admission will be free, but those stopping by are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Lord's Bounty Food Bank.
