The Nor-Man Regional Health Authority has taken over the ambulance services for Cranberry Portage. A volunteer board had been running the service but requested last fall that the NRHA assume control, citing difficulties in continuing to operate as a volunteer group. The transfer of services took effect last week with the board turning over its building and equipment to the health authority. The NRHA has hired two full-time employees and plans to hire additional casual employees. "It's the creation of jobs for Cranberry Portage and it's a stabilization of the fact that they thought they were going to lose their ambulance service," said Ken Gurba, regional director of emergency medical services for the NRHA. Gurba noted that Cranberry Portage averages about 100 ambulance calls per year.
