A Flin Flon man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for stealing two vehicles and lighting them on fire over the summer. Michael William Cook, 21, pleaded guilty to driving off with a personal vehicle and a City of Flin Flon truck in separate incidents of theft and arson. Appearing in The Pas Provincial Court this week, he pleaded guilty to stealing the City truck from an employee's home in August and starting it ablaze on the Hillside Cemetery road. Cook also entered a guilty plea to a July incident of breaking into a resident's home and nabbing the keys to their vehicle, which he then drove to Creighton Ave. and lit on fire. He entered a guilty plea to a handful of other charges, including mischief and breach of recognizance. During sentencing, Judge Roger Gregoire took into account the fact that Cook had spent two-and-a-half months in custody awaiting his day in court. In addition to jail time, Cook received three years probation and was ordered to pay restitution for the City truck. He must also take counselling.
