Premier Greg Selinger expressed gratitude Wednesday for the survival of all six passengers and two crew members of a plane that crashed at the Thompson airport Tuesday.

In a news release, Selinger offered his wishes for a quick and complete recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew who thankfully survived what must have been a terrifying experience,” he said. “We know their families will be by their sides as they recover from their injuries. On behalf of all Manitobans, I want to offer our best wishes and hopes for a swift and complete recovery.”

The federal Transportation Safety Board reported that a Piper PA-31 Navajo aircraft, operated by Keystone Air Service, crashed about 7 pm shortly after takeoff from Thompson’s airport.

As well the two pilots, on board were three employees of Northern Airport and Marine Operations, two Manitoba Business Transformation and Technology employees and one employee of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation.
