Environment Minister Stphane Dion is calling on hydroelectric power producers to seize the environmental and economic opportunity offered by Canada's potential to produce renewable energy in its push for a sustainable, healthier and more prosperous country. In a recent speech, Minister Dion pointed out that new government initiatives are available to encourage renewable energy power producers, individuals and industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase business opportunities. Those opportunities exist through the Climate Fund, the Partnership Fund, and the Greenhouse Gas Technology Advancement Fund, among others. "A key part of our approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants is based on the increased use of low emission sources for the generation of electricity," said Minister Dion.
