Renowned Cranberry Portage artist Irvin Head shared his passion for his craft during a recent workshop for a group of Scouts in Thompson. Head is widely known for his intricate, wildlife-themed stone sculptures.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to talk to one of the country’s leading artists about the inspiration behind his work,” said Humaid Razool, Troop Scouter. “And also Irvin had a great time teaching our Scouts in the workshop, sharing his experience and answering their questions. It was a rare opportunity to learn from a professional about carving.”
Razool said Head’s positive attitude toward his art “comes from his deep respect for all that surrounds” the artist.
“It is because of this great gift that Irvin has been able to continue on his journey in a healthy and respectful way” added Razool.
Razool said each of the Scouts has received pieces of soapstone and wood with which to make their own art pieces.
Head’s workshop was organized by University College of the North.
