Schools, businesses, you name it - almost everything in Flin Flon is closed after a snowstorm dumped over a foot of snow on the town overnight.
Flin Flon School Division (FFSD) facilities officially declared a "snow day" around 7 a.m., with each school tells parents and children to stay at home rather than attempt coming in.
"To ensure the safety of our students and staff, schools will be closed today. Classes will resume as normal tomorrow," reads a statement distributed by FFSD superintendent Tammy Ballantyne.
"This will allow time for our custodial and maintenance staff along with the City of Flin Flon to ensure safety of everyone to and from schools."
Creighton Community School followed suit, first cancelling bus service, then shutting things down completely for the day.
"Due to heavy snow we will be closing the school today. School will resume tomorrow as normal. Be safe and take care," reads another statement released online, this time from Creighton School Division director of education Vincent Cable.
Not every school in the region will be shut due to the snow. Snow Lake's Joseph H. Kerr will be open, but school buses will not run.
"We understand if parents are unable to get their children to school today and want everyone to be safe," reads a statement on the school's Facebook page.
Several businesses across Flin Flon and Creighton have also shut their doors for the day. Northern Eye Care, Flin Flon Insurance, Northern Rainbow's End, Ped's Threads, Warehouse One, Flin Flon Dental, Freedom's Way Thrift Store, Kwik Cab and others have chosen to shut their doors Monday in response to the snow. Other businesses, including Northland Ford, will remain open but will have altered services - the dealership will have limited staff, with salespeople staying at home and no shuttle service.
The Flin Flon Guidance Nursery is also closed for the day.
City of Flin Flon snow clearing crews are out in the community in full force, plowing off main roads and side streets.
