Extremely cold temperatures are causing schools to shift plans this week.
Most school buses operating with the Flin Flon School Division (FFSD) will not run on Jan. 30. Only one bus will run on Jan. 30, picking up any high school students from Bakers Narrows and Beaverbank Road currently writing exams. No other buses will run within the school division.
All FFSD schools will still be open, but according to a statement issued by the school division, parents are asked to "use their own discretion about whether or not they choose to send their children to school."
Buses in Flin Flon are slated to continue as planned on Jan. 29.
Meanwhile, bus service for Creighton Community School has been cancelled for Jan. 29 and Jan. 30. The school itself will remain open, with the school also asking parents to use discretion about sending their children for class. Creighton School's doors will open at 8:35 on Jan. 30 and students will be able to enter the building immediately. Teachers will be on duty inside the school.
Flin Flon and Creighton are currently under an extreme cold warning, with temperatures shifting between -30 and -40 degrees celsius and high winds expected. Warnings are currently in effect for most of northern Saskatchewan and all of northern Manitoba.
