Citizens For Better Education plans to give the original copy of their petition to the Creighton School Board today. The petition asks that the board rescind its 4-2 vote to establish a high school at Creighton Community School pending further review. The group presented the results of their petition drive to the board on Wednesday night but declined to provide the petition to the trustees, saying some of the people who signed did not want their signatures seen by the board. Following some discussion after the presentation, however, it turned out that people who were leery of having the board see their names had opted not to sign the petition, organizer Buz Trevor said. Creighton Board Chairman Terry Brown told the group on Wednesday that the board needed to have its own copy of the petition. "Any organization that deals with a petition has to see the petition and have a copy of it," he said. Brown said at the meeting that the board will review its decision to establish a high school program at Creighton Community School beginning this September with grade 10 classes. A volunteer organization, Citizens For Better Education says its petition gathered 676 signatures from Creighton and Denare Beach voters. That represents about half of the Creighton School Division electorate.
