It's Blaine Veitch's job to be on top of education in Flin Flon, and that he is. At Tuesday's regular school board meeting, the superintendent shared with the public various news tidbits from around the schools, including: Over the Christmas break, workers completed renovations to the Ruth Betts School library. Hapnot Collegiate teacher Ryan Gray is planning a science trip to Drumheller, Alta. The Sunrise Gym program, operated by the youth mentors at the elementary schools, continues to offer students early morning activities before classes. Preparations for the upcoming Dinner Theatre production at Hapnot are well underway. The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at Ruth Betts begins this week with the grade 5 students. Presenting the program is Cst. Nolan Suss of the Flin Flon RCMP. New computers have been installed in the Parkdale School computer labs and science room. Saskatchewan high school students from Many Faces Education Centre and Hapnot recently met with staff at Northlands College in Creighton to discuss post-secondary education needs in the area. The Neighbours Helping Neighbours program at Pharmasave continues to benefit students, with over $10,000 in cash and supplies being donated to local schools since the program began. The program allows Pharmasave customers to have a percentage of their purchases donated to the school of their choice. Over the Christmas break, the schools collected boxes and boxes full of donations for the Lord's Bounty Food Bank and the Gifts for Tots program.
