If anyone thinks Brittany Lyons has butterflies about being chosen valedictorian of her graduating class, they would be mistaken. "I don't get nervous," said the honour roll student at Many Faces Education Centre, "and I'm very happy to be representing the school and my graduating class." Brittany was handed the honour yesterday by the Many Faces grad committee, who saw the well-spoken young woman as the perfect choice to represent them. Already she is giving thought to the prominent speech she will deliver before hundreds of people at the R.H. Channing Auditorium next month. "I'm thinking that the theme will be that no matter what anyone tells you, you can do whatever you want to do," said the teen. "As soon as you say you can't, you won't." Brittany was in grade 10 when she began attending Many Faces, where staff have come to regard her as an excellent ambassador for the school. "The school is a part of me and it's very important to me," said the avid reader and sketcher. As for her post-graduation plans, Brittany admits she'll have to do some "soul searching" before deciding on which career path to take, but she knows that she would like to work with people. This is the second major honour Brittany has received in recent months. Earlier this year, she won the Manitoba Association of School Trustees' Student Citizenship Award for Northern Manitoba. She was one of just six students across the province to be bestowed the award, given to youth who demonstrate community involvement and a high academic standing. The Many Faces graduation ceremony is slated for June 28.
