School may not be all fun and games, but Hapnot Collegiate took a serious detour from that sentiment Wednesday evening. To add something new to a school dance, half of the gymnasium was lined with a variety of games as part of the high school's "Casino Night." "I think it was a really novel idea and I know student council worked really hard to pull it off, so they deserve a pat on the back," commented principal John Clark. As the students paid their $5 admission fees, they were given $300 worth of 'Hapnot Bucks' to be used in the mock casino. The games included the likes of Blackjack, Crown and Anchor, and Plinko, a game seen on TV's The Price Is Right in which participants try to drop a chip into a winning slot. Using their school currency, the students were invited to bid on various items in a silent auction. Up for grabs were things such as bags of candy, neon lights for license plates, and gift certificates. Students not up for the games took the opportunity to dance in the other half of the gymnasium. Proceeds from the event will go to Hapnot Student Council.
